SCENE IX
Susie's car pulls up outside Jackie's.  Music is blaring inside and is heard.  The girls
get out of the car and walk inside without knocking.  Susie and Christine hold up the
alcoholic beverages and cheer while the rest tumble through the snacks on the coffee table.
JACKIE:
(speaking loud over the music)
I'm glad you guys could make it.
SUSIE:
No problem.
JACKIE:
So, when's this girl Christine invited coming over?
SUSIE:
Christine said around eight or eight thirty.
While Jackie and Susie talk, the rest of the girls are dancing around them.
Helen approaches, bottles of beer in her hands.  She begins to pass them out.
HELEN:
Alright, everyone!  Quiet for a second!  Jackie, turn the
music off for a second.
Jackie turns down the blaring stereo.
HELEN:
Okay, I would like to make a toast to this year's graduating class.
And also, to the one and only Jackie Cassidy for making this little
gathering possible.  Thank you and drink up!
They all take long sips from their bottles and cheer.
ALYSSA:
Alright, turn the music back on!
Jackie turns the volume back up on the stereo and they begin dancing around the room.
JACKIE:
(after taking a sip of beer)
This turned out pretty good, didn't it, Susie?
SUSIE:
Yeah, everyone's having a great time.  Cheers to the hostess.
They tap bottles and take a sip of beer.  No one notices Alyssa slip away from the party
and enter the kitchen.  She picks up the phone on the counter and quickly dials a number.
George picks up on the other end.
GEORGE:
Hello?
ALYSSA:
Hey, babe.
GEORGE:
Oh, hi. How's the party going?
ALYSSA:
Going pretty well.
GEORGE:
Oh yeah?  How about I come over and make it a lot better?
ALYSSA:
(after a short giggle)
Sure, baby.  You know where Jackie lives, right?
GEORGE:
Yeah, I drove her home from school a couple times.
ALYSSA:
Alright, hon.  I'll be waiting on the back porch for you.
Just hurry, okay?  I can't wait to see you.
GEORGE:
Can't wait to see you either, sexy.  See ya in five.  Bye.
ALYSSA:
Bye
She hangs up the phone and maliciously sneaks back into the living room.
She approached Christine.
ALYSSA:
Are we having fun?
CHRISTINE:
Oh yeah.  I already have a buzz.
Helen approaches.
HELEN:
(happily)
Me too!
ALYSSA:
Helen, I think you're a little bit more then buzzed.
HELEN:
(acting tipsy)
That's alright though.
She puts her arm around Christine.
ALYSSA:
You know what, Christine?
CHRISTINE:
What?
HELEN:
I love you.
CHRISTINS:
(laughs)
Yeah, Hel.  I love you too.
HELEN:
You do?
CHRISTINE:
(shrugs)
Yeah.  Sure.  Whatever.
HELEN:
Wow ... I feel ... I feel ... I ...
She collapses to the floor.
ALYSSA:
(looking down at her)
Wow, she's plastered.  How much could she have drank already?
CHRISTINE:
I don't know.  Let's just put her on the couch.
They pick her up and rest her on the couch.
CHRISTINE:
Let's hope she doesn't drink anymore for the rest of the night.
ALYSSA:
God.  Look, I'm gonna get some air.  I'll be back in a few minutes.
Christine watches Alyssa exit throught the back door, suspicion on her face.
