SCENE VIII
Susie and Christine exit Susie's house and get in the car parked in the driveway.
CHRISTINE:
You're really sure about this, Susie?
SUSIE:
Christine, I told you.  Jackie is having trouble boucing
back after last year.  She's really trying, but no one wants
to give her a chance.
CHRISTINE:
Okay.  Sorry.  Hey, don't we have to pick up Helen?
Susie nods and starts the car.  She backs it down the driveway and down the street.
CHRISTINE:
I'm getting so sick of watching them drool all over each other.
SUSIE:
(rolls eyes)
Tell me about it.
CHRISTINE:
Y'know what I heard?
SUSIE:
No, what?
CHRISTINE:
I heard that you used to have a crush on George.
SUSIE:
I kinda thought he was cute when he first moved here.
That's all.  Besides, I don't even think so anymore.
CHRISTINE:
You sure that fire's not still burning?
SUSIE:
That's not even possible.
The car parks outside of Helen's, Susie beeps the horn.  A few seconds
later, Helen comes jogging out, an overnight bag on her shoulder.
She opens the car door and gets in the backseat.
HELEN:
Hey, girls!  Are we all ready for tonight?
CHRISTINE:
Definitely.  What do you have to bring?
HELEN:
I got a couple of six packs.
SUSIE:
Cool!  We're gonna get completely blasted tonight!
HELEN:
Wait, guys.  I don't wanna get too drunk.  Remember
what happened the last time I went to a party with you two?
CHRISTINE:
Oh yeah.  You were in the bathroom puking for most of the night.
HELEN:
I couldn't help it!  You practically poured that vodka down my
throat!  Anyway, where's Alyssa?
CHRISTINE:
We gotta pick her up.
SUSIE:
God, I gotta pick her up too?
CHRISTINE:
Yeah, what's the problem?
SUSIE:
Nothing.  You know how Alyssa is though.  She won't be spending
the night with George, so she'll want to spend ever second before
we leave with him.
HELEN:
Meaning...?
SUSIE:
Either one or two things.  Either she's going to get all depressed and start
babbling incoherently all night about him, or she's going to sit in her house
and ponder over the question of going with us, or sleeping with George again.
HELEN:
Ew, I know.  I can't believe how much they're all over each other.
CHRISTINE:
Nasty.
SUSIE:
Hey, didn't you say you were bringing someone with you tonight, Christine?
CHRISTINE:
Yeah, her name's Jaimie.
SUSIE:
Do we have to pick her up?
CHRISTINE;
No, she's going to meet us there.  I gave her Jackie's address.
392 Edgewood, right?
SUSIE:
Right.  What time is she coming?
CHRISTINE:
I told her around eight.
SUSIE:
(staring at something through the windshield)
Oh, my God.
The car stops in the street, in front of Alyssa's house.  She and George are
sitting on the porch kissing, their hands all over each other.
HELEN:
(staring from the backseat)
Why don't they give it a rest?
CHRISTINE:
I don't know, but all I have to say is thank God for birth control.
They all laugh as Susie begins honking the horn.  Still kissing, Alyssa holds
up her index finger, signaling for them to wait.  She finishes her kiss, then jogs
down the porch step, bag in hand.  George watches her run off.
SUSIE:
(playfully)
Hurry up in the car, skank!
Alyssa gets in and the car pulls away.
HELEN:
You'd better memorize that look George just gave you because
that's the last time you'll be seeing him tonight.
ALYSSA:
(a little irritated)
I know!  Jesus Christ!
CHRISTINE:
So what time did Romeo say he was stopping by Jackie's tonight?
ALYSSA:
What are you talking about?
SUSIE:
We all know you two are planning some kind of sting or something.
ALYSSA:
(rolls eyes)
Pfft.  As if.
